“I have the feeling that although a lot has been accomplished in terms of materials so far, porcelain has been a bit left out, maybe because it is considered too complex or perhaps too precious. The goal of my work is to open the spectrum of porcelain. I experience it, make it take risks, I combine it to find new forms, colours or techniques. I want to help it reveal its true potential; bring porcelain where it has never been before”.
Born in 1980 in Harderwijk (Netherlands), Djim Berger is a graduate of the Design Academy Eindhoven (2009). He works in Eindhoven, where he has located his studio within Atelierdorp.
Djim Berger is a true porcelain alchemist. One month after graduating, his projects ‘Lightweight Porcelain’ and ‘Textile Made Fragile’ were shown by Pierre Bergé & Associés, in Brussels, in the « Wishlist Li Edelkoort » auction sale and exhibition. These two projects highlight his will to test porcelain and bring it to new and unpublished territories, in search of a material that is visually and sensually renewed. These experiences enable him to develop designs that are functional and that correspond to his own vision.
